Italian language and Italian culture are a deep cultural need in Russia
2011: Year of Italian Culture in Russia
Last week Dmitry Medvedev and Silvio Berlusconi officially opened the Year of Italian Culture in Russia.

In his speech, the Russian president, emphasized that this event follows the ancient tradition of cultural relations. The knowledge of the Italian language and culture for Russia is not a fad, but a deep cultural need.

In this context, Medvedev underlined with a smile that many members of the Russian delegation were listening to Berlusconi's speech without translation services. They actually speak fluent Italian.

And in fact, Italy is considered a treasure of civilization in Europe. Medvedev recalled in his speech that the greatest geniuses of Russian culture, Dostoevsky, Tchaikovsky, Tarkovsky, Brodsky found inspiration in Italy, its history and art.
