The new lyric season at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste began in December. The Teatro Verdi is one of the most important Italian opera houses and one of the oldest functioning since its foundation.

This year, the opera season at Verdi includes some historical and crowd-pleaser masterpieces, such as Wagner's Das Liebesverbot, Verdi's Nabucco, Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice. Don Pasquale, Gaetano Donizetti's opera buffa in three acts, is not to be missed.

The building that is home to the theatre was inaugurated in 1801 and its exterior structure was modelled after Milano's La Scala. Initially called Teatro Nuovo (New Theatre), it was renamed after the famous Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi in 1901. It was extensively restored between 1992 and 1997 and re-opened with approximately 1,300 seats... and it is just one minute away from our school!

A major feature of the Teatro Verdi's programming is the "International Festival of Operetta", which takes place every summer. The operetta (literally, "small opera") is a genre of light opera. It is light in terms of both music and subject matter, typically revolving around satire or funny and amusing plots. If you would like to approach the opera world without too much seriousness, or simply enjoy an artistic yet very funny evening, this operetta will suit you!
