The sun reflects in its turquoise sea, illuminating the entire landscape while you take the first dip of the year! Enjoy the fragrance of the blossoming trees, walking peacefully in the thick meadows of daisies. At sunset, together we'll discover the crystal clear waters of the "Costa Viola" and the playful Aspromonte waterfalls.
The mild and colorful seasons have started!
Here are two excursions for you to enjoy the nature of Calabria:
1. Trekking to the Mundo and Galasia waterfalls
Spring has already blossomed in Tropea and in the whole of Calabria. This region is famous for the unspoilt nature of its maritime coasts and mountain parks. With our school you will discover the rich landscapes of flowering trees and colorful meadows, but also the lusciously green and wild mountains.
In the Aspromonte Mountains you can admire the olive trees of the Gioia Tauro plain. Beginning at a town located 850 meters above sea level, students will follow the path of the waters of these mountains. Within the rich vegetation, and originating from the small Bravi River, several waterfalls continuously change the landscape; any group of hikers walking amongst the greenery will suddenly be surprised by the discovery of the Mundo and Galasia waterfalls. As well as the rare prehistoric ferns (Woodwardia radicans) growing next to the falls, they truly are a unique spectacle.
2. Trekking along the Sentiero Azzurro or the Tracciolino
The "Costa Viola" is the part of the Tyrrhenian coast that takes on a purple hue at sunset, and to admire this uniquely colorful sea between Gioia Tauro and Reggio Calabria, the students will ascend Monte Sant'Elia. The mountain is the true panoramic terrace of the Aspromonte across the Tyrrhenian Sea, and is the highest point before the mountains dive into the sea. Following the Sentiero Azzurro (Blue Path), students will be able to climb to the summit of Mount Sant'Elia.
The trail proceeds through a rich vegetation of pines, oaks, chestnut trees and Mediterranean scrub. Along the way, the view stretches to the Aeolian Islands, with the distinctive characteristic being the active volcano Stromboli. From the top, on a clear day you can see Scilla to the north of the Strait of Messina and the profile of Sicily, notably because of Etna. It is an unmissable spectacle that will be available to all our students who wish to discover the "Costa Viola".
